It was an impressive showing by Western Cape MTB’ers at the National Champs this weekend. Our riders were present on podiums from the youngsters all the way through to the Vets, Elite and both genders.
In the Nipper boys, young Alec Coleske placed first. Our young and rising star Luke Moir took gold in the Sprog Boys with Sarah van der Walt 3rd in the Sprog Girls. Congratulations guys and girl.
The Sub Junior boys were really well represented with 4 of the top 5 places being taken by Calla de Vos (2nd), Michard Meets (3rd), Daniel van der Walt (4th) and Jamie Penfold (5th). What an awesome performance by our lads.
Matt Keyser took 2nd in the Youth Men and Matthew Lombardi a credible 3rd in the Junior Men.
We are very proud of Mariske Strauss, Cherie Vale and Candice Neetling who took 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the Elite Women’s race. (and most importantly the crowning of Mariske as SA National XCO champ)
The course was really tough and the Elite Men apparently had some tire issues that put James Reid on the 3rd podium step after struggling with a puncture in his tire that would not seal properly.
Not to be outdone by the elites Mark Moir, Rob Sim took top spot in their respective Sub Vet groups and Chris Nixon taking 2nd behind Rob.
To everyone who took part in the Nationals, congratulations to you all.
If anyone has any photographs of the event, I would be happy to post them in our galleries.
