Western Province Cross Country Marathon Series and Championships 2016

The marathon (XCM) series is off to a great start with two races done and everybody is looking forward to the WC XCM Champs in Ladismith. Please note: You need to qualify for WP Colours (last race is on 19 November 2016) and then if you are on the podium at the WC Champs, you will qualify for WC Colours (but it also depends on the number of participants that finish the WC Champs per category). You need to do 3 of the 4 WP marathon races to qualify for WP colours.

Western Province Cross Country Marathon Series 2016

The Western Province Mountain Bike Commission is pleased to announce that the Nissan Trailseeker Western Cape Series will form the basis of the official Western Province Cross Country Marathon Series. Please find the relevant information on their website: http://www.trailseekerseries.co.za/ It will also be the sole basis of qualification for the Western Province (Regional) Cross Country Marathon Colours. Details of the four part series is as follows:

  1. Nissan Trailseeker WC #1: 7 May at Boschendal in Groot Drakenstein
  2. Nissan Trailseeker WC #2: 25 June at Elgin Grabouw Country Club
  3. Nissan Trailseeker WC #3: 8 October at Sumaridge Estate Wines in Hemel and Aarde
  4. Nissan Trailseeker WC #4: 19 November at Bosman Wines in Wellington

The Colours Qualification Criteria are as follows: 1. Three best results of four to count 2. Top twenty positions per category to be given points 3. Less than five participants per category – only first place qualifies 4. Less than ten participants per category – only first and second to qualify 5. Ten and greater than ten participants per category – top three to qualify No individual can qualify for Western Province XCM Colours without a Cycling South Africa (CSA) license.

The categories are as follows: 1. Nippers, Sprogs and Sub-Juniors – 20km 2. Youth, Juniors, Master Women, Grand Master Women and Grand Master Men – 40km 3. Elite, Sub-Veteran Men and Women, Veteran Men and Women and Master Men – 70km

Please take note of the following: Parents may ride with children U/10 (Nippers) and U/12 (Sprogs) but must remain behind the child at all times and not interfere with other riders. Parents may not ride with children U/14 (Sub-Juniors) and upwards under any circumstances. Transgressions may be reported to race officials on the day or to the WP MTB Commission. Transgressions will result in the qualifying rider being disqualified from the series.

The Western Cape Cross Country Marathon (XCM) Championships 2016 will be hosted by Dryland at the Ladismith Cheese 7Weekspoort Mountain Bike Challenge on 1 October 2016. The Start Venue is the Amalienstein Packing shed in Amalienstein and the Finish Venue is the Ladismith High School in Ladismith. Convenient, accessible and comfortable… One of South Africa’s greatest one-dayers!” (Excerpt from the website)

  • This means that, if an individual has received his Regional Colours and has come in the top three of his/her category at 7Weekspoort, he/she will receive Western Cape Colours.
  • No colours are awarded at the Ladismith Cheese 7Weekspoort Mountain Bike Challenge/Western Cape XCM Championships 2016 because some of the regional series’ are not complete yet. This is the reason why only medals will be awarded and not certificates on the day of the Championships.

NISSAN TRAILSEEKER WESTERN CAPE SERIES

The Nissan Trailseekers Western Cape Series is a Western Province Mountain Bike Commission sanctioned event and forms the basis of the official Western Province Cross Country Marathon Series. It will also be the sole basis of qualification for Western Province (Regional) Cross Country Marathon Colours.

The first of the four part series is on 9 May at Helderberg (Somerset West). This is followed by second event on 27 June in Grabouw, 10 October in Hemel and Aarde (Hermanus) and 14 November in Meer and Dal (Meerendal).

Qualification criteria are as follows:

Three best results of four to count
Top twenty positions per category to be given points
Less than five entries per category – only first place qualifies
Less than ten entries per category – only first and second to qualify
Greater than fifteen entries – top three to qualify

No individual can qualify for Western Province XCM Colours without an Cycling South Africa (CSA) membership or a Cycling South Africa (CSA) license. The categories are as follows:

Nippers, Sprogs and Sub-Juniors (20km’s)
Youth and Juniors (40km’s)
Elite, Veteran and Masters (70km’s)

The Western Province XCM Series is completely separate from the Western XCM Championships to be held in Seweweekspoort on 3 October 2015.
The Western Cape XCM Championships is a once-off opportunity to garner Western Cape XCM Colours (Provincial), to qualify for Provincial Colours you will have to have your Regional Colours (Western Province) and CSA membership/license.

WESTERN CAPE MTB XCM COLOURS  

To qualify for Western Cape MTB XCM Colours at the upcoming 7weekspoort MTB Challenge, the following parameters must be complied with:

  • The cyclist must have a CSA license (a day license will not suffice);
  • The cyclist must be a resident in the Western Cape.

The first three finishers in the following distances and age groups will qualify for Western Cape XCM Colours:

  • 25km: Nippers, Sprogs & Sub-Juniors
  • 45km: Youth, Juniors, Masters (Women),Grand Masters (Men) & Grand Masters (Women)
  • 80km: Elite, Sub-Veteran (Men), Sub-Veteran (Women), Veteran (Men), Veteran (Women), Master (Men)

The awarding of the Western Cape MTB Colours will follow the main prize-giving at the 7weekspoort MTB Challenge.

Don’t forget to register for the Western Cape MTB XCM Championships!

The Western Cape MTB XCM Championships hosted by the 7weekspoort MTB Challenge is taking place on Saturday, 4 October 2014.

Pre-entries:                 Online entries via the 7weekspoort MTB Challenge website 

Registration:               Friday, 3 October 2014 at Ladismith High school from 14h00 till 20h30 or Saturday, 4 October 2014 at Amalienstein Packing shed from 05h30 till 07h00.

Riders may be liable to pay a late-entry fee when registering after 26 September 2014.

Please note no rider under the age of 19 will be allowed to compete in the 80km race as per the CSA rules. All riders must enter the correct distance for their age category, otherwise they will not be taken into consideration for colours.

Children younger than eight years old MUST be accompanied by an adult for safety reasons, the organisers cannot take responsibility of the young children over that distance and terrain.

Western Cape MTB XCM Championships 2014

The Ladismith Cheese 7weekspoort MTB challenge taking place on 4 October 2014

will now include the Western Cape MTB XCM Championships.  Below is a brief by Fred Lingenfelder, Western Cape Mountain Bike Commissioner.

After consulting with other role players it has been decided that the Ladismith Cheese 7Weekspoort MTB Challenge will be the official Western Cape Marathon Championship event for 2014.

Riders will be able to enter for the following distances:

  • 25km:    Nippers/Sprogs/Sub-Junior – R80
  • 45km:    Youth/Junior/Master Women/Grand Master – R170
  • 80km:    Elite/Sub-Veteran/Veteran/Master Men –R300

Elite riders (19+) would need to have the specific Elite License.

The prize giving will take place immediately after the event distance category prizes have been handed over.  Medals and certificates will be handed over to the first three men and women in all the age categories.  Riders have to be a member of an affiliated club and be a CSA member. No rider riding with a day license will qualify.
