SUBARU CAPE TOWN AND WPMTBC PRESENTS THE STIHL 2016 SA CUP SERIES XCO #2 (UCI Cat 1) AND WESTERN CAPE XCO #3 CUP RACE

We are very excited to host the Stihl 2016 SA Cup Series XCO #2 race at Helderberg Farm on the 27th of February 2016. We are combining this event with the WC XCO #3 Cup Race and all our Western Cape riders need to enter through the Cycling SA website: https://entries.cyclingsa.com/.

We are acutely aware that the entry fee is much more than the usual WC race entry fee – this is due to an extra day at the track on Friday with official practice and registration as well as additional infrastructure needed for a national race with UCI status. Please note that registration and late entries will be from 9:00 to 16:00 on Friday, 26 February 2016. The course will be open for practice from 10:00 to 16:00 on Friday only. On Saturday, 27 February 2016, there will only be number pick-up from 6:30 – 7:00. There will be no course practice. The first race starts at 8:00

The Western Province Mountain Bike Commission consists of 12 committee members. The Commission is not an events company and do not host the cup series for profit. The committee members are mostly parents of XCO and DHI riders that dedicate their “free time” to the XCO and DHI disciplines of Mountain Biking. We appeal to all the parents to get involved in hosting the provincial races. No, you don’t have to attend all our committee meetings but we do need you to assist us at the races to make it happen and run smoothly. We don’t have the budget to hire staff and the workload is not sustainable to be done by the committee alone. We are in dire need of parents to volunteer for Saturday’s SA Series Race #2/WC XCO #3 Race.

Please contact the following committee members to volunteer:

Registration Volunteers: Contact Adelle at info@wpmtb.co.za

Marshal Volunteers: Contact Allan at allan@dcprinters.co.za

We would like to thank all the volunteers that assisted us to host the WC XCO #1 at Rhebokskloof and the XCO #2 at Helderberg Farm. A special mention goes to our photographers that volunteer their time and expertise to take great pictures of all our fantastic riders. (Brakkies Sport Fotos, Tania Horsford, Janine Coleske, Ewald Sadie). The photographer at the SA Cup race will be Chris Hitchcock.

Thank you also to our sponsors that enable us to host the races: Subaru Cape Town, Durbanville Commercial Printers (DCP), Giant and WC Cycling. And a very big thanks to the riders and their families and friends that support the WC XCO Cup Series and the WC DHI Cup Series.

The remaining two races of the WC XCO Cup Series are:

  • 27 February – Helderberg Farm – Somerset West
  • 12 March – Picardie Guest Farm – Paarl

The remaining three races of the WC DHI Cup Series are:

  • 28 February – Helderberg Farm – Somerset West
  • 10 April – Cascade Country Manor – Paarl
  • 1 May – Cascade Country Manor – Paarl

The best 3 results out of the 4 cup races will count towards your final position on the log to qualify for provincial colours.

Best of luck to all our WC riders for the rest of the XCO and DHI series.

In case you missed the Facebook post this morning. The results are up over at Great Time.

Thanks to one and all for attending. It turned out to be a wonderful day for all the family. Thanks to our MTBers and their families and friends for making this a particularly awesome event.

To my fellow committee members and volunteers, well done on an exceptional event. Looking forward to another great day out at SA Nationals next weekend.

To the international stars that joined us yesterday, you’re just fantastic. And for all those that managed to squeeze in a “selfie” with Joland Neff – I just want to say that I am jealous.

An lastly to our sponsors – especially Tienie and Subaru Cape Town – Thanks. It was wonderful having you there, we look forward to our continued association in future. To our other die-hard sponsors too. Thanks.

If you wish to participate next week then please enter on the Cycling South Africa’s website. We will not be accepting entries via any other channel. And here is the link to the event on CSA.
