WESTERN PROVINCE MTB CUP SERIES # 1 INFORMATION
It is hard to believe that it is time to commence the 2015 series. The first event will be on 14 February 2015 at the Rhebokskloof Wine Estate. The people at Rhebokskloof Wine Estate have been fantastic in accommodating the Western Province MTB Series, to such an extent the second round of the Western Province MTB Series will also be held at Rhebokskloof on 21 February 2015. We really encourage everyone to make use of the facilities at Rhebokskloof Wine Estate and reciprocate what they are doing for MTB as a sport. On the day of competition all the normal activities of Rhebokskloof Wine Estate will be available to riders, families and spectators. This includes the restaurant (email the restaurant), wine tasting, picnics, horse-riding, etc. Rhebokskloof Wine Estate has special packages made available to participants and spectators and more information will be released as soon as it becomes available.
ROUTE FOR WESTERN PROVINCE MTB XCO 1 & 2

REGISTRATION AND MARSHAL VOLUNTEERS
Volunteers are sought for both registration and marshalling duties for both WP MTB XCO 1 on 14 February and WP MTB XCO 2 on 21 February at Rhebokskloof. Registration duties will be on the Friday afternoon at Rhebokskloof between 15h30 and 18h00. Late registration will be on the Saturday morning from 07h30 to 08h30 at Rhebokskloof Wine Estate. Marshalling duties will be on the Saturday of each race from 08h30 to 13h30. We understand that those who volunteer to marshal also have children participating. In 2015 we are going to introduce a system where we will divide the marshals into shifts of 2 hours each to accommodate this situation. We encourage you to please volunteer for both the services of registration and marshalling to make these events possible. FEES AND BIKE BOARDS
The entry fees for all Western Province MTB XCO Cup Series Races for 2015 will be as follows:
- Nippers & Sprogs R100 per event
- All other categories R200 per event
Those not holding a Cycling South Africa (CSA) membership or riders’ licence will be required to pay R35 per event above and beyond the entry fees for a temporary license.
These entry fees are only applicable to those entering online and between 15h30 and 18h00 in the registration period on the Friday before the race. Late entries on the morning of the race will be accepted during the registration period which is 07h30 to 08h30. Entry fees for late entries are as follows:
- Nippers & Sprogs R125 per event
- All other categories R250 per event
No entries will be accepted after 08h30 on the Saturday morning of the race as adequate cut-off is required for the timing system and accurate results.
For 2015 a rider will receive one bike board for the season when registering for the first event. The cost of the bike board will be levied at R50. Should a bike board need to be replaced during the season, a R50 fee will be levied again.
REGISTRATION AND PRACTICE SESSIONS
Official practice for all events will be on race day between 07h30 and 08h30. Practice will be mandatory during the official practice session for Nippers, Sprogs and Sub-Juniors. When the mandatory practice lap has been performed, this will be demarcated on the riders’ bike board.
For the first two rounds at the Rhebokskloof Wine Estate riders are allowed to practice at any time prior to the races, as a guest of Rhebokskloof Wine Estate. This also applies to the Friday before the race. Please ensure that you sign the MTB register at reception and the relevant fees paid. It is of particular importance that the landowner is adequately supported in this venture, to ensure longevity for the Western Province Mountain Bike Commission (WPMTBC) in using the facilities in future.
Registration for ALL events will be on the Friday afternoon from 15h30 to 18h00 and, again on the morning of the race between 07h30 and 08h30. Registration after 08h30 on the Saturday will not be possible as to ensure adequate cut-off for the timing systems used to guarantee accurate results.
An enormous amount of preparation is required to set-up races. People such as Bryan Strauss work tirelessly months before an event to ensure that the tracks are built for the riders. The set-up of the track begins the week before the race. We are urgently seeking volunteers, specifically for the Friday before the events of 14 and 21 February to assist with set-up. This will include start and finish areas, sponsor branding and final track demarcation. Ideally we are looking for between 8 and 10 people to assist on the Friday. This process will commence at about 09h00 in the morning, but should you volunteer you are welcome to arrive at any point during the day.
